Doctors, research validate use of drug-free nasal wash to manage sinus problems

Physician-designed SinuCleanse® Nasal Wash Shown Helpful in Treatment of Sinus Sufferers

MADISON, Wis. (December 18, 2003) – Early indications show this winter will be one of the worst in history for cold and flu, indoor allergies, and sinusitis – sending millions of Americans to their doctors and pharmacists with complaints of sinus problems. Before turning to antibiotics, drugs, or surgery, a growing number of sinus sufferers – at the suggestion of health professionals – are first trying a convenient, all-natural treatment to relieve sinus pain: nasal wash.

Ear, nose and throat physician Diane G. Heatley, M.D., developed the SinuCleanse® nasal wash system to treat her patients suffering from sinusitis and allergies and has been able to reduce medications for many. She based the system on the neti pot used by yogis for centuries, and created an unbreakable plastic version, making it easier to use.

The SinuCleanse® system uses a saline solution to cleanse the inner nose, calming irritated nasal passages and relieving nasal congestion to improve breathing. It works by rinsing mucus and drainage out of the nose, thereby treating the root problem and not just the symptoms of sinus disease.

Science also supports the case for daily nose washing. A research study from the University of Wisconsin – Madison found that the SinuCleanse® nasal wash system provides a simple drug-free treatment for sinus infections and other sinus ailments.

Participants who added the SinuCleanse® nasal wash system to their daily regimen showed decreased nasal symptoms, decreased medication use and overall improved health over the six-month period of the study.

"More and more doctors and patients are tiring of prescription drugs and their side effects, creating an enormous demand for products that safely and effectively ease sinusitis symptoms," said Dr. Heatley. "Drug-free nasal washes can be used by people who only have symptoms once in a while and by people who have symptoms every day, whether they are triggered by allergy, dry air, second-hand cigarette smoke, pollution or the common cold,"

Further proof that this product is gaining mainstream appeal comes as Walgreens recently expanded the availability of the SinuCleanse® system to all of its 4,227 locations in 44 states and Puerto Rico.

The system is ideal for children as well as adults, and pregnant women suffering from nasal congestion can use the system to relieve their symptoms naturally without worrying about harmful drugs.

The SinuCleanse® system is sold at Walgreens retail stores nationwide and other fine pharmacies for $14.95. The system includes a nasal irrigation pot, which is unbreakable and easily cleaned. It also includes drug-free saline solution packets with complete instructions for use. Additional solution packets can be purchased separately. The product and an informational video can be ordered online at www.sinucleanse.com or by calling 888-547-5492.
